About the Local Welfare Provision (LWP) scheme
The Local Welfare Provision (LWP) scheme helps people who are in a short-term crisis and need help immediately to get essential things. It is grant based, which means people who receive money from it will not have to pay anything back.
There are 2 types of help:
- a pre-paid card
- giving of white goods and beds
If your application is successful, you will be sent a pre-paid card by post.
You can use this to purchase things such as food and clothing and pay for energy bills or pre-payment gas and electric meters.
This help is known as a "crisis grant".
White goods and beds
The items you have been allocated will be delivered to you and installed in your home. This help is known as a "community support grant".
The company supplying the goods will contact you to arrange a date and time to deliver and install your items.
Items such as fridges and cookers are "table top" versions.
