Benefit Service

We are responsible for the administration and payment of council tax benefit, housing benefit for local authority, housing association and private tenants.

The service is delivered as a part of a multi-benefit service for the citizens of Birmingham. This means that you only have to complete one claim form to apply for any of these benefits.

We are committed to providing a prompt response to all enquiries to ensure the benefit you receive is correct. Naturally, we continually look to improve the quality of the service we provide and will always be sensitive to your individual needs.

Council Tax

We are responsible for the administration and collection of council tax charged on domestic properties.

We have a duty to collect council tax from all liable charge payers. We will:

Send out accurate and timely council tax bills;
Collect council tax promptly and efficiently;
Deal with your enquiries promptly and efficiently;
Provide clear and up-to-date information;
Help you understand your rights and obligations;
Continually improve our standards and services; and
Give value for money in our services.

Business Rates

We are responsible for the administration and collection of business rates, or national non-domestic rates, which is charged on commercial properties.

We have a duty to collect business rates from all liable taxpayers. We will:

Send out accurate and timely rates bills;
Collect business rates promptly and efficiently;
Deal with your enquiries promptly and efficiently;
Provide clear and up-to-date information;
Help you understand your rights and obligations;
Continually improve our standards and services; and
Give value for money in our services.
