The Household Support Fund (HSF) is money from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). It is given to the council to help households in financial need.

Support is available for essentials such as:

  • food
  • energy
  • water
  • essential goods and supplies

Different types of help are offered to meet a wide range of household needs.

HSF Round 7 update 13 October 2025

The scheme is paused for new enquiries.

The scheme is expected to support eligible households with grant payments until the end of March 2026.

If you have already sent an enquiry

If you submitted an enquiry after 23 June 2025 and received an email confirming approval, you are on the waiting list.

Someone from your local team will contact you within 3 to 4 weeks using the details you gave.

They will help you complete your full application.

While you wait

The team is working through the waiting list.

To make sure they can reach you, do both of the following:

  • switch on your voicemail
  • check that your phone can accept calls from withheld or private numbers

This helps the team contact you if you miss their call.

When enquiries reopen

Enquiries will reopen in early November 2025.

You will be able to send an new enquiry if one of the following applies:

  • you are not already on the waiting list
  • it has been 12 months since your household last received a grant payment

What happens next

Sending an enquiry does not guarantee a grant payment.

Your eligibility will be checked during the application process. You may need to send documents to confirm the details you gave before any payment is made.
