Graffiti removal

Graffiti is any writing, marking or drawing on a surface without permission. It can range from tagging to murals.

All graffiti is criminal damage. There are no designated graffiti sites in Birmingham.

If you find graffiti, you can report it to us. Do not try to remove graffiti yourself.

We do not charge to remove graffiti in most circumstances.

Information to include

When you report graffiti to us, tell us:

  • the type of graffiti, for example racial, tagging or mural-style
  • the exact location, including clear details to help us find it

After you report graffiti

We will remove racial and hate graffiti on the next working day. We will aim to remove other graffiti within 7 days.

We will not contact you when the work is complete.

If the graffiti is above head height, we may need specialist equipment. If it is on your property, we will contact you as there may be a charge.

Graffiti on business properties

Report it to us.

If it is racial or hate graffiti, we will remove it for free on the next working day.

For other graffiti, after reporting it you must email commercial waste to arrange and pay for removal: commercialwaste@birmingham.gov.uk.
