Report a pest problem at home

Treatments for pest problems in homes and gardens are chargeable. Currently, payments for rat treatments are excluded due to the waste industrial action.

We offer a seasonal wasp treatment service during the summer months. The wasp service is currently closed.

Current rat treatments

We have adapted our service to meet increased demands to make sure that we can provide free treatments to the highest number of citizens to have the biggest impact.

Use our form to report a rat problem if you would like an officer to visit your property.

The system for booking appointments is temporarily paused and we are not able to confirm timescales for treatments.

If an officer does visit your property, a bait box with poison will be provided free of charge.

If you would like a rat treatment to start sooner, there are two alternative options available:

Collection service

Bait boxes can be collected free of charge from 10:00am to 2:00pm Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays) from:

Unit 17 Fort Industrial Park,
Dunlop Way,
Birmingham,
B35 7AR

Only one box per residential property within the council's area is allowed.

When we will not give refunds

If the pest control officer attends the property and finds that the wrong treatment has been booked, they will aim to carry out the correct treatment. No refund will be given if the correct treatment cannot be carried out.

If you request a rat treatment, but mice are present, the officer will only give brief advice on appropriate treatment options. They may provide a basic bait for you to treat the mice yourself. No refund will be given. If you wish to receive a complete mouse treatment a new visit must be booked and paid for.

No refund will be given if we cannot carry out the treatment because you, your appointed person or another adult is not present when the officer visits. The treatment must be rebooked.

When we will give refunds

Refunds will only be given for cancellations received at least 48 hours before the treatment date.

You can cancel a treatment booking by phoning our customer contact centre on 0121 303 1923 or emailing cs.pestcontrol@birmingham.gov.uk.

If we cannot keep an appointment, we will contact you as soon as possible to offer a different date. If you are unable to find a suitable new date, a full refund will be given.

If an appointment is missed because of events beyond our control, we cannot accept responsibility for any inconvenience or losses caused.

Treating a pest problem yourself

If you would prefer to treat a problem yourself we can offer some guidance and assistance depending on the type of pest involved. See the pest-specific relevant advice leaflet in the section in the 'further information’ section.

If you live in rented accommodation it is recommended that you notify your landlord if you are experiencing a pest problem as they may be able to assist, especially where there are common or shared parts to the accommodation, such as shared kitchens, hallways, stairwells, etc. This is especially relevant with insect pests such as cockroaches which may inhabit vents, duct and pipework which may be beyond the responsibility of an individual tenant.
