April 2022

We would like to notify you that from the afternoon of 22 April 2022, the Alexander Stadium construction team will begin reinstating the gravel path at the rear of the Walsall Road Allotments (marked with a red dashed line on the plan below) to grassland. The reinstatement works will involve levelling and seeding the ground along this route. As such, this route will be closed to pedestrians from this afternoon until after the Commonwealth Games in August 2022.

We would therefore encourage those travelling to the East Stand to park in the East Stand car park (accessed via Church Road and “Allotment Road”), where there are sufficient car parking spaces available.

On Wednesday 27 April 2022, the Stadium site will be handed over to Birmingham 2022. This will be to carry out their preparations ahead of the Commonwealth Games. Birmingham 2022 will begin the installation of a perimeter security fence around the Stadium, which will remain in place until after the Games. Once the fencing is installed, pedestrians will not be able to access the Stadium site, including from Stadium Way or “Allotment Road”. Further details about the perimeter fence installation will be available on Birmingham 2022’s website on Monday. If you have any questions about installation of the perimeter fence, contact: cwg2022stakeholders@birmingham.gov.uk.
