  • North of GMAC and HP Centre: The main construction of the warm-up track and throwing field have progressed well. The warm-up track is almost complete and the in-field has been seeded, the grass has grown and will be maintained until Summer 2022. The landscape work has commenced, tarmac surfacing to the footpaths will commence in September 2021 and trees will be planted in the winter season. On the warm-up track, the tarmac base has been completed and laying of the synthetic running track surface will be completed in August 2021. Installation of the foundations for the large floodlight columns is currently underway.
  • New West Stand and main track: Works on the external envelope of the West stand has progressed well including the cladding and glazing, and the roof is expected to be complete in September 2021.The installation of stainless-steel posts is also progressing well. On the external concourses waterproofing works are underway in preparation for the resin flooring to go down towards the end of the summer. Internally, the partition walls and the plumbing and electrical works have made good progress, and the rooms are taking shape on all levels of the stand where plastering and decoration works have commenced. The final stages of the main track formation have commenced, the in-field has been turfed and the rubber track will be completed in August 2021.
  • Around the existing East Stand: The large stairs from the East Stand car park up to the Northern Plaza have been completed and Work to reconstruct the existing car park in front of the East Stand is ongoing.
  • Perry Park: Construction of the southern section of the Athletes’ Route (which will pass through Perry Park) commenced on 21 June 2021 and will largely be complete in October 2021. It is possible that a small section of the Route will need to be completed at a later date to allow for some utility works to be undertaken. Construction of the Route will take place in two phases, with pedestrian access maintained throughout. The first phase will install the upper section of the Route (that closest to the Alexander Stadium) which has been completed and the second phase has commenced and will largely be complete in October 2021. The second phase of works will involve installation of the remainder of the Route, and widening of the existing junction/access point between the Athletes’ Route and Church Road. As part of the works, the ground levels for the junction and surrounding section of Church Road will be raised to match the existing footpaths. The section of Church Road surrounding the junction will also be resurfaced. To accommodate these works, temporary traffic management measures will be required along Church Road. Nearby residents and businesses will be sent a separate letter ahead of these works to provide further details.
Construction of a flood mitigation bund and associated drainage channel in Perry Park has commenced, and will be completed in September 2021.

During these construction works in Perry Park, it is probable that there will be a slight increase in the audible noise, and dust levels in the vicinity.

Southern section of the Athletes' Route - Construction works

In January 2021, we submitted a reserved matters planning application to Birmingham City Council to seek approval for the southern section of the Athletes’ Route. The proposals were approved by Birmingham City Council on 13 May 2021, and are available to view on the council’s Planning Online website.

Construction of the southern section of the Athletes’ Route began on Monday 21 June 2021 and will take place in two phases. Phase One of the construction works has been completed. Phase Two of the construction works has commenced, and will largely be complete in October 2021. It is possible that a small section of the Route will need to be completed at a later date to allow for some utility works to be undertaken.
