Doorstep scams

  • Use a door chain, spy hole or look through a window. Say no to unwanted, uninvited callers. Do not answer the door if you are unsure, or find it difficult to say “no”.
  • A reputable doorstep seller will not pressure you to make a decision. Say “no”, or that you need advice first.
  • Do not have work done on your property by someone calling uninvited to your door. Take time to get quotes from other traders. Use a trusted trader scheme such as No Rogue Traders Here.
  • Always ask for identification and close the door while you check it.
  • Display a “No Cold Calling” sticker. You can get one by emailing tradingstandards@birmingham.gov.uk.
