Enforcement policy for regulation and enforcement services

The Legislative and Regulatory Reform Act 2006 requires councils to publish an enforcement policy, which we review annually.

The policy commits us to good enforcement practice and describes when and how our officers take legal action.

The current enforcement policy was approved by the Licensing and Public Protection Committee.

The policy includes a statement of principles regarding the Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015, as amended. It also explains how civil penalties for housing-related offences are applied.

We can provide this policy in alternative formats and make reasonable adjustments on request, in line with the council's duties under equality legislation.
