Information for temporary elections staff

We collect personal information from temporary staff so we can issue contracts, manage payments and meet our legal duties when delivering electoral registration and elections.

Information we collect during the application process

We collect the following personal information as part of your application:

  • full name, address, date of birth, National Insurance number, contact telephone number and email address
  • confirmation that you are eligible to work in the UK
  • confirmation that you have access to personal transport
  • details of any previous experience working at elections
  • details of any previous criminal convictions
  • details of any election campaigning you have carried out on behalf of a candidate or political party

Information we collect if you are offered employment

If you are offered a role, we will also collect:

  • bank account details including bank name and address, sort code, account number and account name
  • an employee statement about your tax arrangements
  • proof of that you are eligible to work in the UK

Who we will share your information with

Your personal information may be shared internally with staff involved in managing election duties and operational processes. It may also be shared with other staff you work with during an election.

We will not share your information with third parties unless the law requires us to.

How long we keep your information

We keep your personal information for the length of your employment, plus 6 years. After this, it is securely destroyed.
