Becoming a councillor
Almost anyone can stand as a councillor. You can find out about eligibility and what you need to submit on the Electoral Commission website.
There is also information about what being a councillor includes from the Local Government Association.
Stand as a candidate
Nominations for the 7 May 2026 elections closed at 4:00pm on 9 April 2026.
You can no longer stand as a candidate in these elections.

Candidates for 7 May 2026 election
The statements of persons nominated confirm which candidates are standing and will appear on the ballot paper.
