How to apply
You can apply for a discretionary payment if you need extra help with your housing costs or Council Tax.
When you apply, give us as much detail as possible about your situation. This helps us make a decision.
We will look at:
- whether you have claimed all the benefits you are entitled to and that they are being paid correctly
- the information you give us on your application form
- your personal circumstances
When we have made a decision, we will write to let you know.
Discretionary payments do not have a formal right of appeal. However, you can:
- ask us to look at the decision again within one month of the date on your notification letter
- give us new information or tell us if your circumstances change
- ask for a review at any time if we think it is appropriate
