Working in partnership to deliver the Homes for Ukraine scheme

Birmingham City Council have partnered with Refugee Migrant Centre (RMC) and Spring Housing to provide support to guests and hosts. These services will be delivered through two contracts.

See below for details of the contracts and how they will work.

Contract one: Arrivals, orientation and integration services

Refugee Migrant Centre will deliver our Homes for Ukraine (H4U) arrivals, orientation and integration services through a family support model that has a dedicated family support worker linked to both the guests and the hosts as a single unit.

The family support worker will help the hosts and the guests with:

  • provision of:
    • £200pp on arrival
    • pre-paid SIM cards
    • 12 week bus travel card
    • health and safety information
    • emergency contacts
  • DBS checks for hosts and relevant family members
  • access to health services, including:
    • help registering with a GP
    • dentists
    • pharmacies
    • visiting clients in their accommodation
    • help accessing mental health services
    • other health needs as appropriate
  • schools/children support, including help with:
    • school applications
    • admissions
    • transport
    • uniforms
  • ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) – supporting assessments of English language competencies and access to appropriate learning opportunities
  • employment and training – supporting access to training opportunities and steps into paid employment
  • social care, safeguarding and support – working with the group to identify any additional needs, and making referrals to relevant services and support
  • wellbeing care – clothing, food and integration into local communities
  • general orientation and community integration – promoting independence and participation in community activities and community life
  • re-matching if there is a breakdown in the relationship between hosts and guests
  • help to apply for benefits, if applicable
  • immigration advice relating to extension of leave to remain under the Homes for Ukraine scheme
  • helping guests receive their Biometric Residence Permits (BRP) cards
  • supporting hosts - help with the information and training they need to carry out their hosting responsibilities
  • providing a dedicated out of hours help and support service

Contract two: Tenancy and family support

Spring Housing will deliver our Homes for Ukraine (H4U) tenancy and family support.

This involves supporting family groups to find suitable housing when they are ready to move on from their host accommodation.

Spring Housing will help guests with:

  • information, advice and guidance on the UK/Birmingham housing market to manage expectations of guests and hosts
  • a dedicated money advice service to help each household with budgeting and affordability calculations, including making use of the 'move on' financial package

  • work in partnership to enhance pathways to independent living
