Moving traffic enforcement

We use cameras to enforce prohibited manoeuvres by capturing the licence plates of vehicles that break the rules.

Find out where enforcement cameras are located

As you approach a camera, you may see signs:

  • telling you what actions are not allowed
  • warning you about the enforcement camera

If a vehicle is seen doing a prohibited manoeuvre, a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) will be sent to the registered keeper of the vehicle.

A PCN will have:

  • details of the alleged contravention
  • details of the vehicle
  • 3 photographs showing the contravention

The police can also fine vehicles that perform prohibited manoeuvres.

How we fund enforcement

Money received from fines for prohibited manoeuvres helps cover enforcement costs, including:

  • the camera system
  • maintenance of the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) signs and lines
  • printing and postage to issue PCNs
  • staff to check and process PCNs and appeals

Any remaining money is used to improve public transport and roads.
