Tourism signage in Birmingham
The council's Destination Traffic Signing Policy provides a guide for brown and white tourism signs, and how they are used across the city.
These signs help drivers navigate their way to our main tourist attractions.

About the policy
The policy explains:
- who can apply – Tourist attractions with public access and suitable parking
- what information is required – Visitor numbers, sustainability information, maps, and more
- what happens next – How applications are reviewed and what to expect if approved
How to apply
To apply for a tourism sign, fill out the expression of interest form.
When you fill in the form, choose the following from the drop-down options:
- 'street furniture/signs' as the request type, and
- 'new traffic sign' as the request

It costs £223 to apply for a sign. This cost covers reviewing your request and drawing up a proposal.
After you apply
A local engineer will contact you for further information, in line with the policy.
If your application is approved, we will work out any additional costs you will need to pay for the work and future maintenance.
These costs will depend on your specific application.
