For the under 5s

Warm, safe and comfortable, the Children’s Library is the perfect place to share books with your baby or young child, encouraging an early love of reading. Our range of beautiful story and nursery rhyme picture and board books includes other languages, dual languages and books with CDs.

‘When a book might help’ is a special collection to help very young children understand concepts such as the alphabet and shapes, and to cope with situations such as bereavement or visiting the dentist.

Why not try one of our regular events and activities for the under 5s? Choose from story time, rhyme time, music and craft activities, plus visits from children’s authors, theatre groups and puppet shows. Many events are free.
