School library services in the West Midlands
Birmingham and Solihull no longer have their own designated Schools Library Services for book loans. The surrounding authorities (listed below in alphabetical order) are happy to offer their services to schools in these authorities.
Many authorities are reviewing their School Library Service provision and you should check that the service is still operating. Contact the service nearest you geographically.
Schools Library Services (SLSs) can meet your school’s needs to borrow books for use in classrooms to support the curriculum and for up-to-date and appropriate fiction to enable your pupils to read widely and support the Reading for Pleasure agenda.
Your school can buy in to a SLS according to your needs and budget. SLSs save you time and money:
- Borrowing is cheaper than purchasing
- Stock selection is done for you - by experienced information professionals
- Books are delivered and collected
- Other resources to enhance topics may be available, e.g. artefacts, photo packs, story sacks, whiteboard resources
- Books can be ‘lent on’ to your pupils directly from your school library or learning resource centre
