Places at grammar schools in Birmingham – September 2023

If you are a parent and would like your child to go to a grammar school in Birmingham, they will need to sit an entry test. There is one entry test across all of Birmingham's grammar schools:

  • Bishop Vesey's Grammar School for Boys
  • King Edward VI Aston School
  • King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys
  • King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls
  • King Edward VI Five Ways School
  • King Edward VI Handsworth Grammar School for Boys
  • King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls
  • Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls

You can read more information about Birmingham's grammar schools on the Grammar Schools in Birmingham website.

Only children born between 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012 can take the entrance test in 2022 for entry in September 2023.

Applying to sit an entry test is not the same as asking for a place at the school (an expression of preference). You must also complete the application form of your home local authority (this is the local authority where you pay your council tax).

Please note that children older than 11 years may not register for the tests. However, parents or carers can still contact these schools about their admission arrangements outside the Year 7 transfer process.
