Apply for a grammar school entry test

You can register for the selective test for entry in September 2027 until 4:00pm on Friday 27 June 2026. Late registrations are not allowed.

The test will take place in September 2026.

Important data sharing agreement

If your child is taking the selective test for grammar schools in Shropshire, Walsall, Warwickshire, or Wolverhampton local councils, you must tick the box(es) on the selective test registration form to consent to your data being shared with the relevant local council. If you do not do this, your child will not be offered a place at the non-Birmingham grammar school on 1 March 2027, even if they scored enough to be offered a place and you included the school as a preference on your secondary school application for September 2027.

Late data sharing requests

Late requests to share your data will not be considered until after offers are made on 1 March 2027. All late requests must be made directly to the King Edward VI Foundation by emailing office@kevibham.org.

Test results

Wait for your child's test results before naming a grammar school as one of your six preferences on your online application.

If you submit your application with a grammar school listed and your child is not successful in the selective test, you will have reduced the number of schools you could have listed as preferences.

The West Midlands Grammar Schools group will send you the entrance test results before 31 October 2026.

Once you have received your test results, you should decide whether to name a grammar school as one of your preferences on your home authority's preference form. This must be submitted by the national closing date of Friday 31 October 2026.

Pupils who accept places at selective schools in Birmingham will not be entitled to free transport from the local authority if an appropriate place is available at a maintained school within three miles of their home address.
