Coaching for selective tests

Our policy is that no teaching or coaching for selective tests should happen in Birmingham's primary schools.

This policy is important because coaching can be counter-productive. Overachievement in the entry tests may be against the long-term interests of children whose abilities may be more limited than their scores would suggest.

We have asked headteachers to provide support within the context of the overall educational development of the children concerned.
