Elections for all Birmingham City Council wards will take place on Thursday 7 May 2026.

About the election
All 101 council seats will be up for election. There are 69 wards in the city, each represented by 1 or 2 councillors.
On Thursday 7 May 2026, there will also be elections for:
- 24 councillors to the Sutton Coldfield Town Council
- 12 councillors to the new Frankley in Birmingham Parish Council
Key dates
- 24 March 2026: poll cards sent to people already registered to vote
- 9 April 2026, 4:00pm: deadline to submit nomination papers
- 10 April 2026: list of candidates published
- 20 April 2026: deadline to register to vote
- 21 April 2026, 5:00pm: deadline to apply for a postal vote
- 23 April 2026: first batch of postal votes sent to voters who applied by 1 April 2026
- 28 April 2026, 5:00pm: deadline to apply for a proxy vote
- 7 May 2026: polling stations open from 7:00am to 10:00pm
- 8 May 2026: votes counted and results declared
Register to vote
You must register to vote by Monday 20 April 2026 to vote in this election. Check if you are already registered.
Postal vote
The deadline to apply for a postal vote for this election has passed.
If you have already applied for a postal vote but have not received it, contact the Birmingham Electoral Services team as soon as possible.
Proxy vote
A proxy vote allows someone else to vote on your behalf.
The deadline to apply for a proxy vote has passed.
You may still be able to apply for an emergency proxy vote on polling day if something unexpected means you cannot vote in person and you have not used a postal vote.
Poll cards
Poll cards are sent from 24 March 2026. These tell you where your polling station is.

The statements of persons nominated confirm which candidates are standing and will appear on the ballot paper.
