EV charging for Taxis and PHVs
Birmingham has been awarded funding by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) to install 197 EV charging points in approximately 80 locations for the exclusive use of electric and hybrid Taxis and Private Hire Vehicles. These charging facilities are planned in the city centre, at Tyseley Energy Park and at a number of locations around the outer circle. The new charging points should be available by December 2019.
EV charging for public use
We plan to upgrade the publicly available charging network, decommissioning the 36 current charging points and replacing them with rapid and fast charging facilities in more locations. The new charging points should be available by December 2019.
The current EV charging network can be seen on zapmap. All council owned electric vehicle (EV) charging points can be used by members of any EV network - just use your membership card to start the charge.
EV charging at home or work
If you want to charge a vehicle at home or are an employer who would like to provide charging facilities for your staff, the Government offers grants for installing home charging points and grants for installing workplace charging points.
