Environmental Health
Environmental Health is one of the services which makes up Regulatory Services within Birmingham City Council and the wide range of services we provide are concerned with making Birmingham a safe and pleasant city in which to live, work and visit.
Our Regulatory Services Customer Care Charter sets out our commitments to you so that you can judge us on our promises.
We aim is to take firm but fair regulatory action to protect public health, the environment and to promote the well being of all Birminghams citizens. Any enforcement action we take is based on our Regulatory Enforcement Policy.
We carry out investigations and enforcement to tackle neighbourhood problems such as: littering, flytipping, flyposting/placarding, dog-fouling, pollution, pest control and drainage blockages.
We carry out inspections to make sure that businesses know how to comply with the law and to check that they do. We are legally responsible for enforcing a very wide range of legislation including:
- food hygiene and safety including food poisoning and infectious diseases
- heath and safety at work
- environmental protection and authorised industrial processes
- nuisances such as noise, illegal littering and rubbish dumping, illegal advertising, flyposting and placarding
- animal welfare.
