Landlord has asked you to leave

Your landlord has to give you written notice if they want you to leave their property.

The type of notice they have to give you will depend on the sort of tenancy you have.

GOV.UK has guidance about being asked to leave a rented property.

Your landlord is breaking the law if they evict or try to evict you without a court order.

Your landlord is also breaking the law if they try to harass you to leave. Harassment can include:

  • making threats
  • cutting off gas, electricity or other fuel supplies

GOV.UK has guidance about eviction and your rights if a landlord tries to evict you.

Contact us immediately if:

  • your landlord is trying to evict you illegally
  • you need advice about being asked to leave your home
