Check fire safety in your home
West Midlands Fire Service gives advice on how to keep your home safe from fire.
They offer free Safe and Well checks for people who live in the area.
During a visit, a fire officer can give advice about:
- cooking safely
- smoking materials
- electrical safety
- planning how to escape if there is a fire

Know how to turn off utilities
Gas leaks can cause fires or explosions after an emergency. Everyone in your household should know how to turn off the gas supply.
Electricity can cause sparks. Make sure everyone knows how to turn it off at the main switch or fuse box.
Water can be limited during emergencies. Make sure everyone knows where the main stopcock is and how to turn it off.
