Prevention Duty

If you are at risk of being homeless and are eligible for assistance then we can assist you to remain in your home or, if that is not possible, to find alternative accommodation before you become homeless.  As part of the prevention duty we will develop a personal housing plan  with you.  This will have actions that the Council will take to support you and actions that you will need to carry out to try to prevent your homelessness.

The prevention duty normally comes to an end after 56 days (8 weeks) if your homelessness has not been prevented by this time although the duty can continue for longer in some cases.

If you become homeless during the prevention stage then the Council has a duty to try and relieve your homelessness
