Changes to the repairs and maintenance service
Following a detailed procurement process, we have awarded new long-term contracts to improve how repairs, planned maintenance, servicing and property upgrades are delivered to tenants and leaseholders.
From 1 July 2026, repairs, maintenance and planned improvements to council homes will be carried out by 3 contractors:
- WPS
- Mears
- Equans
Each contractor covers a specific area of Birmingham. All contractors follow the same service standards, safety requirements and customer care expectations.
To find out which contractor covers your home, use our housing repairs contractor checker.
We are responsible for managing the service and making sure standards are consistent across the city.
Temporary changes during the contractor changeover
Repairs reported during the contractor changeover will still be carried out. Some may take a little longer than usual while the new contractor takes over from 1 July 2026.
Emergency and urgent repairs will continue to be prioritised and completed as quickly as possible.
During the contractor changeover, there will be temporary changes to how repairs are handled.
From 16 June 2026, you will not be able to report repairs online. During this time, report repairs through our Customer Contact Centre by phoning 0121 216 3330.
New appointments with the incoming contractor will not be available until after 6 July 2026.
Repairs booked before the end of June should go ahead with the current contractor as planned. However, if you ask to rearrange an appointment scheduled before 30 June 2026, there may be a delay in getting a new appointment. To avoid delays in your repair, we recommend keeping your existing appointments before the end of June, if possible.
Our commitment
The service has been shaped by feedback from tenants and leaseholders. It aims to be:
- more modern
- more flexible
- more responsive
We are committed to delivering better value for money and supporting long-term investment in council homes across the city. This includes meeting the Government’s Decent Homes Standard by 2032.
