Things to see and do

Playgrounds

The playground by the Lodge at Vicarage Road is designed for 1 to 5 year olds. Equipment includes a slide, climbing frame and swing.

The playground by the Avenue Road entrance is designed for 5 to 12 year olds. It features a range of play equipment, including a slide, shelter and swings.

Wildlife

The Park provides good roosting, nesting and feeding opportunities for many birds, such as wintering Fieldfare and Redwing along with all year round Song and Mistle Thrush, these together with mixed flocks of finches including, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Bullfinch and Goldfinch provide a healthy list for a relatively small area of green space

Great Spotted Woodpeckers can be found nesting in the large Oaks and Poplars, alongside other hole nesting birds such as Blue, Great and Coal Tits, Nuthatch and Tree Creeper, with Blackbirds, Robins, Wrens and Dunnock flourishing in the undergrowth.

The park contains a diverse mix of vegetation and habitats with woodland plantation, a good number of mature and veteran oaks, open grass, a large pond with muddy margins, hedgerow and mature woodland bordering the green railway corridor.

Guided activities and tours

Our Rangers lead regular events and activities in parks across the city. These are a great opportunity to take an active role in caring for your local park or simply to learn more about Birmingham's wildlife and green spaces.

Our seasonal programme includes outdoor fun events for families, craft activities, guided walks, practical conservation days and training courses. We also offer guided walks and talks for local community groups.

  • On Tuesdays there is an Active Parks walking session from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Meet by the Park House.
  • On Thursdays there is an Active Parks "Down To Earth" (outdoor family learning) session from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Meet by the Park House.

Plant nursery

Kings Heath Plant Nursery sells high quality seasonal bedding, shrubs, patio containers, hanging baskets and pot plants to the public.

Walking or jogging routes

There's a 2 kilometre walking route through the park.
