Development Management in Birmingham submission

The Development Management in Birmingham document (DMB) will provide detailed policies to help determine planning applications and development decisions across the City.

Once adopted, it will provide non-strategic policies to support the delivery of the adopted Birmingham Development Plan and will replace the remaining Saved 2005 Birmingham Unitary Development Plan policies.

Following public consultation earlier in 2020 on a ‘Publication’ version of the document, the document itself, along with all representations received and suggested amendments, is being submitted to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

A Planning Inspector will then be appointed to carry out an Examination in Public to determine the soundness of the DMB. Details of the Examination will be published once a date has been set and further information has been released by the Planning Inspectorate.

Following the Examination, the Planning Inspector will produce a report to determine whether the document is sound and make suggested amendments accordingly.

The DMB will then be put before the city council for adoption based on the recommendations of the Inspector’s report. Adoption of the DMB is therefore anticipated early in 2021.
