Referendum

Two referendums relating to the adoption of the Jewellery Quarter Neighbourhood Plan were held on Thursday 13 July 2023:

  • one residential referendum, and
  • one business referendum

The question that was asked in both referendums is "do you want Birmingham City Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for the Jewellery Quarter to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?"

More than half in both referendums voted in favour of the plan. For the residential referendum, 93.68% voted in favour of the plan and for the business referendum, 58.82% voted in favour of the plan.

February 2023

In February 2023, Birmingham City Council and the Jewellery Quarter Neighbourhood Forum received the Examiner’s report on the JQ Neighbourhood plan. The report concluded that subject to a series of modifications, the JQ Neighbourhood Plan met the basic conditions and should proceed to a referendum.
