Birmingham's online neighbourhood planning toolkit
We were one of the Department for Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities (DLUHC) neighbourhood planning pilot areas in 2022 to 2023.
The main aim of the pilot was to find ways of enabling less affluent areas to explore and develop a neighbourhood plan for their area, if they decide it is the right approach for them.
This is an aim that we share with DLUHC.
As part of the pilot, DLUHC funded us to develop 2 Birmingham specific toolkits:
- an internal toolkit for use by Birmingham City Council planners – to share best practice, resources, and know-how to ensure a consistent and positive approach to neighbourhood planning across the council
- an engaging and practical online toolkit for residents and community groups to find out more about:
- neighbourhood plans and how to develop one in their area
- what support is available
- other Birmingham communities who already have a neighbourhood plan, or are developing one
The toolkit called 'Local Visions' has been developed by Birmingham Community Matters in partnership with:
- the council
- Locality
- Birmingham communities involved in neighbourhood planning
