Call 999 or go to your local police station for immediate help if you or someone else is in danger or a crime is in progress. If you are unable to speak, 999 operators can still connect you to police. The operator will listen for background noises. Find out how to make silent 999 calls.

Ethnic minority women may experience additional barriers in getting help for domestic abuse.

This includes:

  • facing stereotypes and assumptions
  • overcoming cultural expectations
  • knowing where to get help safely without someone in your community finding out
  • immigration issues
  • language support if English is not your first language

Culturally sensitive support is available from women from the same ethnicity or culture to help overcome these barriers.
