Walking and cycling out and about

Walking and cycling are great ways to take in new things, meet new people and move more. Become more familiar with your local area by walking and cycling rather than taking the car. Sustrans tips can help you incorporate walking and cycling into your routine.

Organisations local to you can help you make friends, discover your local green spaces and become more active:

Taking up running can seem like a scary prospect, especially if you feel out of shape or unfit. NHS Couch to 5K will help you gradually work up towards running 5km in just 9 weeks.

In many parts of Birmingham, residents find that streets outside their homes are busy with traffic, particularly when people are cutting through to avoid congestion on main roads. When traffic is reduced the neighbourhood becomes quieter, streets are safer, and the air is cleaner. Reducing the amount of traffic in residential neighbourhoods means it is nicer to be outside and safer for people to walk and cycle, children to play and to connect with your local area.
