The surfacing works to Birchfield Island, Aston Lane, and Wellington Road approaches.
The following closures are required to complete the works at the above locations:
- Wellington Road will be closed between 8pm and 6am on Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 February.
- Aston Lane will be closed between 8pm and 6am on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 February.
- Birchfield Island and all approaches will close on Saturday 19 February at 7pm. This closure is timed to avoid disruption to Saturday trading for local businesses. The junction will re-open at 6am on Tuesday 22 February, coinciding with reduced traffic demand at the start of the school half-term.
The A34 underpass will continue running throughout the works. All footpaths will remain open, and access to all businesses by foot will be maintained, noting that some crossing points may move locally throughout the works. Businesses on the Birchfield Road Northbound off-slip and Aston Lane will be able to take deliveries via marshalled access.
Following the re-opening on Tuesday 22 February at 6am, the junction will be a signalised junction instead of a roundabout. Traffic will utilise the new bridge, and the layout will be closer to the permanent works design.
Delays are likely during the closures, and several bus diversions will occur. Plan and avoid travelling during peak times wherever possible or consider an alternative route.
