Children with SEND and planned placement moves

For a child or young person with identified Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

The social worker must consider for any planned placement move to another LA, whether that LA has a ‘like for like’ SEND provision.

If it does not, further placement planning should be considered to avoid a forced disruption in education.

If a move is being made because of an emergency placement, the social worker must seek agreement from Complex Care in order to ensure that placement and education needs are satisfactorily met.

Prior to a move, where possible, a transition PEP should be completed and the social worker should obtain the views of the child/young person and record them on the PEP, ready to inform/update EHCP on current paperwork and choice of school.

The social worker must inform Birmingham Virtual School and discuss with the placement officer.
