How to apply for College or Training Post 16 years

A young person must stay in some type of education or training until they are 18.

There are many options available when a young person turns 16. It is essential to look at what option best suits the young person and their situation, strengths, and interests.

If the Young person has an Education Health and Care (EHC) plan, there may be different and more suitable options available to them.

The Birmingham Virtual School has a dedicated Post 16 Team who can advise on the young person’s specific needs and will support Year 11 to 12 transition. Birmingham Careers Service are also able to offer support on next steps.

To apply for a place, the setting should be contacted directly.

Carers may be required to support the young person with the application, including providing evidence of qualifications and writing a personal statement.
