Birmingham Virtual School's Central Offer

Birmingham Virtual School's Central Offer aims to raise aspirations by developing general self-esteem, motivation, or self-belief.

We do this by creating opportunities such as university visits and music or YouTube activities.

Birmingham Virtual School works with partner organisations to provide an exciting range of activities and courses that give our young people useful experiences and qualifications.

Activities and opportunities

  • University outreach project with Aim Higher, introducing young people who may want to move into higher education
  • The REP: Young REP bursary, available for people up to the age of 16
  • Foster Family creative arts events delivered in partnership with the REP
  • Discounted REP theatre tickets available for young people and foster families, available at certain times during the year and subject to availability
  • Careers taster days delivered with Birmingham Children's Trust and Birmingham Careers Service, including job fairs and careers events
  • Junior Awards Scheme (JASS) for young people aged 8 to 16 years
  • Art workshops from the WMVS Children in Care Foundation during half-term holidays
  • Theatre trips with the WMVS Children in Care Foundation
  • One-to-one music lessons from Service for Education for young people in Year 4 to Year 11
  • Winner Up! music event for young people taking part in music lessons
  • Serco free swimming lessons (10 sessions of 30 minutes) for pre-reception, reception and Year 1 children, newly arrived children who cannot swim and children new to care who cannot swim
  • Care to Dance weekly sessions for care-experienced young people aged 7 to 25 years

Details of these events are circulated by the Virtual School on the ePep noticeboard, promoted in our termly newsletters, or sent directly to carers when targeting specific young people.
