Adult social care updates
Adult social care staff are working closely with NHS partners to manage the demand created by COVID-19.
We are continuously revising our Business Continuity Plans to ensure that emergency social care services are available to our local vulnerable citizens.
Due to the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic, it has been necessary to change the way the City Council provides adult social care services. On the 14 April the Acting Director of Adult Social Care took the decision to implement powers provided to Local Authorities in respect of their duties under the Care Act 2014 introduced by the Coronavirus Act 2020 which came into force on 31 March 2020. This meant that the local authority was streamlining processes under Care Act easement Stage 3.
This was not about cutting services and we continued to assess and provide services to those who had an eligible need for care and support. There was no change to the services received by existing service users as a result of this decision.
We have kept this decision under regular review and have now made the decision to cease use of the powers provided to Local Authorities by the Coronavirus Act 2020. This means that we will not be streamlining processes under Care Act easement Stage 3 with effect from 18th May 2020.
