Four hard copy versions of the Birmingham Collection catalogue have been published since the opening of the Birmingham Reference Library in 1866.

The first edition was made redundant by the great fire of 1879 in which almost all of the original collection was destroyed. The last book version appeared in 1918 with supplements for 1931 and 1941.

Further additions to the 1918 edition have been made in card catalogue form for the period between 1941 and 1974, and in digital format via Spydus thereafter.
