Reading group

We have an adult reading group that meets at the Library of Birmingham quarterly.

Books are selected from our libraries, and all members fill out a review sheet for each book. The reviews are then compiled in a booklet ready for the next meeting.

The group is invited to meet and chat about the books they have read, and they are asked for their thoughts on what to read next.

We have a blog where reviews from the past and present can be reviewed.

Over the years, the group has been involved in some wonderful events, such as the Independent Prize for Fiction, held in London. This was where they met other book groups from across the country.

In 2020, the group worked with the reading agency to read and review 'Hurricane Season' by the Mexican author Fernanda Melchor, translated by Sophie Hughes, for the 2020 International Booker Prize.

Anyone can join at any of our mobile library stops across Birmingham.
