We have an extensive collection of about 55,000 maps held in our Archives and Collections service.

This guide is intended as an introduction to the availability and use of maps and topographical sources. It is a starting point rather than an exhaustive inventory list.

Further sources can be found by checking:

  • online catalogues (Spydus and CalmView)
  • paper and card catalogues / indexes
  • index maps

The map collection card catalogue is located in cabinet 23, drawers 1 to 5 in the Heritage Research Area.

Be aware it may not be possible to serve all maps listed in this catalogue upon demand. A return visit by appointment in our archival searchroom may be necessary.
