Cannon Hill Park to Moseley

Project overview

The Cannon Hill Park to Moseley cycle route will provide a segregated cycle lane from Edgbaston Road to Park Hill.

This project is funded by the Active Travel Fund, which is ring-fenced funding made available by the government for delivering active travel measures. This funding cannot be allocated elsewhere.

The lane follows a route past the Cannon Hill Park entrance on Edgbaston Road then via Russel Road, Salisbury Road, and Park Hill.

In December 2023 and April 2024, we consulted on the Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) associated with the project. TROs are the legal documents required to make changes to the status of the road.

The TROs in this consultation included changes to:

  • extension of no waiting restrictions on Russel Road

The consultation also included a site notice to:

  • establish parallel crossings on Russel Road and Salisbury Road
  • introduce a cycle track on Salisbury Road.

Current proposals

Under the current proposal, a two-way cycle lane will be introduced on Edgbaston Road and Salisbury Road.

A section of footway will be widened on Edgbaston Road to provide a segregated cycle track to separate cyclists from pedestrians.

Where the route continues across Russel Road, a parallel crossing will be provided, and a section of double yellow lines will be extended to improve safety on the approach leading to the new parallel crossing.

A new segregated cycle facility will be provided along Salisbury Road at carriageway level, and a new parallel crossing will also be provided on Salisbury Road as part of the project.

Details of the proposed improvements along the route are shown on the drawing (plan) below. These maps are not accessible. If you would like an officer to explain the contents of the map to you, email: Transport.Projects@birmingham.gov.uk:

As part of these works, one tree has been removed on Salisbury Road and replaced, to enable a section of shared-use footway to be implemented.

One tree has also been relocated on Edgbaston Road to enable the segregated cycleway to be implemented.

Next steps

Work will commence from 4 November 2024 and will last approximately 20 weeks.

In the interest of safety, appropriate traffic management measures such as road closures and temporary traffic lights will be in place during the works.

Whilst every effort will be made to minimise disruption, it is inevitable that the works will cause some disruption in the local area.
