Order a marriage certificate

All certificates issued are original certified documents.

We can only provide certificates for lawfully registered marriages which took place in Birmingham either at the Register Office, an Approved Premises, or a registered Place of Worship.

If you have recently married at a Place of Worship in Birmingham, make sure that the Marriage Schedule or Marriage Document has been returned to us.

You can check which Register Office to apply to on GOV.UK's website.

Certificates cost £11 each plus post and packing. You can ask for copies of several different certificates as part of the same order.

If we cannot find a matching entry for the certificate you’ve asked for, we will not refund the full fee.

To order a certificate you will need to know:

  • the full names of both partners including former names e.g. a woman’s maiden surname
  • the date of the marriage
  • the place of marriage

When you order a certificate online we will send it to you by Royal Mail recorded signed for post.

Refunds will not be issued in the event that we do not hold your certificate or cannot find it based on the information supplied.

You can write to us at:

You will need to tell us:

  • that you want a copy of a marriage certificate
  • how many copies you want
  • your full name and address
  • your contact number
  • the full names of both partners including former names e.g. a woman’s maiden surname
  • the date of the marriage
  • the place of marriage

You should send payment by cheque or postal order with your request. Certificates cost £11 each plus £6 postage and packing (UK) or £15 (international).

We will send the certificate(s) to you by Royal Mail 1st class recorded post.

If we cannot find a matching entry for the certificate you have asked for, we will not refund the full fee.

You cannot attend the office to make an application in person or to collect a certificate.
