Skip permit application
To apply for a skip permit on the highway (public road), you must be registered with Birmingham City Council.
There is no charge to register. You must provide:
- your public liability insurance details
- your waste carrier licence details
Once you are registered, you can apply for skip permits.

When applying for a skip permit, you must enter:
- your unique SKP (provided when you register)
- your waste carrier reference
You must provide details of where you want to place the skip, including:
- the building number or name and postcode of the customer hiring the skip (not the skip operator)
- the exact location of skip, such as outside 3 Bulky Road or around the corner from 3 Bulky Road on Lean Street
- the start date (the date the skip will be placed on the highway)
The maximum licence period for a skip is 7 days. After this, you must apply for a new permit.
The charge for a permit is £42 per week. Apply at least 5 days before the date you want the skip to be placed.
Payment is required as part of the application. You will need your card details. You can apply for permits for up to 4 weeks.
