Neighbourhood Network Scheme

About the Neighbourhood Network Scheme (NNS)

The NNS is a city-wide community initiative by the council aimed at supporting:

  • adults aged 50 years and over
  • adults aged from 18 to 49 years with long-term disabilities

The scheme is designed to develop the support people need to lead happy, healthy, independent lives in their own homes and communities.

Each of Birmingham’s 10 constituencies has its own NNS, most are run by voluntary and community sector organisations.

Each NNS works with community groups, organisations, and local services to develop activities and support for people in need.

By building partnerships with, and between, local groups, charities and social care, the NNS can strengthen and expand community-based support, creating a more inclusive and supportive Birmingham.

Birmingham Connect to Support Community Directory

Birmingham Connect to Support Community Directory is a city-wide online platform used by all Neighbourhood Network Schemes to share information to help you find local services and support easily, in one place.

The directory is an interactive list of over 2000 groups, organisations, charities, and locations in Birmingham that you can access for free, or at very low cost.

It is designed for you to find the local support you need to stay:

  • independent
  • happy
  • healthy, and
  • in your own home and community

It features an interactive map, so you can find activities and support near you. You can also search for support on specific topics, such as:

  • carers
  • digital inclusion
  • home and garden
  • money and benefits
  • support groups
  • transport, and many more

The 10 Neighbourhood Network Schemes continually update the directory to add new groups and support, and to make sure existing information is kept up to date.
