Apply for a new premises licence for massage or other special treatment

If you want to provide massage or special treatments at a premises in Birmingham you must have a licence.

This includes treatments such as:

  • body massage
  • solaria/sunbeds
  • saunas
  • therapeutic spa baths
  • jacuzzis
  • herbal baths
  • aromatherapy

Each premises will be inspected annually to check that health and safety requirements are being met, as well as adequate hygiene facilities.

West Midlands Police must be notified of all licence applications.

On the same date as you make your application, you must display the Notice of Application on or near the premises; for a period of 21 days. The notice must be in a position to be easily seen at all times by the public passing by outside the premises.

After the 21 days has passed, complete and sign the Certificate on the back of the Notice and return it to the Licensing Section. A licence cannot be issued unless this is returned.
