Moving (progressing) within your grade

How you will move within your grade

You will move to the next spinal column point (SCP) on the reshaped structure for each full year you are in your role (April to March).

You will continue to progress each year until you reach the top of your grade.

To make the changes clearer, we have produced pay progression tables that show the current SCPs and the new SCPs for each existing grade.

How long it will take to reach the top SCP of your grade

If you are in Grade A or D, it will take you a maximum of 4 years to reach the top SCP of your grade from implementation.

If you are in Grade B or C, it will take you a maximum of 5 years to reach the top SCP of your grade from implementation.

When you reach the top of your grade

When you reach the top SCP of your grade, you are still eligible to receive annual pay awards as agreed by the National Joint Council, where increases are applied to each grade.
