Perry Barr Residential Scheme – Phase One

A total of 1,414 brand new homes are being built on the former Birmingham City University (BCU) Teaching Campus at Aldridge Road.

Key features

The scheme includes:

  • a mix of apartments and family homes
  • an ‘extra care’-type facility providing housing and a variety of services for the older community
  • significant areas of public space, as well as private courtyards and amenity spaces

What has happened so far?

Construction of the first 968 homes, which were built over four plots within the site, started in January 2020 and was completed by the lead contractor in phases by spring 2023.

Since then, buildings with homes reserved for the private rental sector have been undergoing an internal refit, which will be completed in early 2024.

The sale process is also underway for the first set of homes that are ready to occupy. The sales are being managed on our behalf by Connells estate agents.

Our strategy is to achieve a balanced housing mix that meets local needs and provides a choice of tenure types, including catering for people as they grow older.

To achieve this, we are also actively marketing the sale of some of the buildings to investors and will report on progress as it happens.
