Taking a gap year in the UK

Spending your gap year in the UK will probably be a cheaper option than going abroad. However, you will still need to plan it carefully to ensure that you get the most out of it.

You could volunteer or take an internship to develop specific skills in the area of work you are interested in. You may sign up with a recruitment agency just to get experience of work and earn some money to fund future travelling.

Use your network of friends and family to take advantage of accommodation and discover parts of the UK you haven’t been before. Alternatively, youth hostels can provide cheap accommodation.

Gap years spent in the UK may not sound as glamorous as those abroad, but could eventually lead to offers of full time employment and provide you with contacts to approach for references when the time arrives.
