Planning your gap year

In the current economic climate, a gap year could be seen as a bit of a luxury, a break or a holiday. It is important that you gain skills and experience whilst on your gap year that will enhance your job prospects on your return. You will need to decide what you want to achieve on your year out. Can this be achieved in the UK or will you seek opportunities abroad? How long will your time out last for? How much will this cost and how will you fund it? Can you organise this yourself or will you approach a gap year provider? If you plan to work on your gap year, what type of work would be suitable?

There are a wealth of websites and books to help you get the most out of your year. Your college or university may also be able to offer advice. It is important to identify a gap year programme that works for you and will benefit you in the long term.
